PCL 1,000 Point Potential
I was hesitant to write this blog for a few reasons. While I love the historic significance and legacy of becoming a 1K point scorer at a school, I don’t want to downplay the importance of winning games. Scoring isn’t everything. If you surveyed the players, I’m sure winning at the Palestra ranks far higher than scoring 1,000 points. Also, this type of content is still outside my comfort zone but I understand that just posting lists can feel dull and boring.
Anyway, here are a few Catholic League players who have already, or have the potential to join the 1,000 point club this season.
Jaron McKie, St. Joe’s Prep Senior - 1,033
McKie, the recent Dayton Flyer commit, is the only player on this list to have already surpassed 1K career points. He reached the milestone toward the end of last season, becoming the 16th player in St. Joe’s Prep history to do so. As the center point of a well-balanced offense, I expect more of the same in his senior year. In 28 games last season, he averaged 18.9 points per game with highly efficient shooting splits. If he puts up similar numbers in his final campaign, Jaron could finish his career as the second all-time leading scorer at the Prep, trailing only Steve Vasturia's 1,764 points.
Shareef Jackson, Roman Catholic Senior - 853
The Lafayette Leopards commit averaged 17.5 points per game in his junior season. Jackson is now just 147 points away from becoming the 24th player in Roman Catholic history to reach the 1K point milestone. When you watch the team play, it's clear that Coach Chris McNesby emphasizes getting the ball to Shareef—and for good reason. Standing at 6’8” with excellent footwork and a soft touch around the rim with both hands, he’s an obvious focal point. I expect this year to open up even more for him offensively, with his younger brother Sammy poised for a breakout season and the addition of top 2027 guard Tyler Sutton. It will be harder for opponents to focus solely on Shareef.
Kevair Kennedy, Father Judge Senior- 712
After a fantastic junior season, Kennedy is on the brink of becoming just the third player in Father Judge history to surpass 1K career points. He could join Marc Rodriguez (Class of 2017, 1,260 points) and Nasheer Johnson (Class of 2021, 1,001 points) in this exclusive club. Kevair averaged 17.4 points per game and led Judge to the Palestra with a remarkable 33-point performance on the road against Archbishop Wood in the PCL quarterfinals. The Merrimack commit has been a key contributor since his freshman year, and I anticipate him to have a huge senior season.
Antwone George, Conwell Egan Senior- 681
Due to Conwell Egan’s lack of recent team success, Antwone George’s scoring has somewhat flown under the radar. He averaged 14.5 points per game in league play last season and has been a starter since his freshman year. Under new head coach Sean Tait, Antwone looks to have another strong scoring season and could become just the fifth player in Conwell-Egan history to reach the 1K point milestone.
Ian Williams, Archbishop Carroll Junior - 627
Archbishop Carroll has an extremely young and deep core of players. Last season, they had five players averaging over 11 points per game. Leading that group and running the offense is Ian Williams. As a sophomore, he averaged 13.1 points per game, totaling 394 points. With so much talent around him and balanced scoring on the team, it’s no guarantee that he hits 1K points this year, but he’s put himself in a great position to make it happen.
Zane Conlon, Devon Prep Senior - 626
Coming off a 20 point performance in last season’s 3A state championship win, Conlon is on track to become the first Devon Prep player to reach 1K points since the school joined the Catholic League in 2019. He led the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game, and I bank on much of the same this season, as the Devon Prep offense will continue to run through him.
Jordan Ellerbee, St. Joe’s Prep Senior- 607
Ellerbee had an impressive summer which finished with his commitment to Florida Gulf Coast. He averaged 14.7 points per game last year and posted a season high of 21 points twice, both against top competition in Neumann Goretti and Roman Catholic. He has his work cut out but there is a real chance to join his teammate, Jaron McKie, in the 1K point club this year.
Derrick Morton-Rivera, Father Judge Junior- 583
You could argue that Derrick Morton-Rivera is the best pure scorer in the entire Philadelphia Catholic League. As a sophomore last season, he averaged 15.3 points per game, including five 20+ point performances. Heading into his junior year, he’s in a great position not only to reach 1K career points but to potentially finish as the all-time leading scorer in Father Judge history when his time there is done.
Nick Parisi, LaSalle Senior - 489
LaSalle’s Nick Parisi burst onto the scene in his junior year, averaging 20.4 points per game and scoring 448 of his 489 total points last season. He still has a long way to go, but with his scoring ability, it’s possible he could reach the 1K point milestone. He aims to join Assistant Coach Amar Stukes, the last player at LaSalle to achieve this feat. Being the focus of the offense, however, can be a double edged sword. While the team’s scoring runs through him, he’s also the top target on every scouting report and defensive game plan.
Others to keep an eye on:
Olin Chamberlain, St. Joes Prep - 562
Nasir Ralls, Arch Carroll - 502
Stephon Ashley-Wright, Neumann Goretti - 440
